Pharmacy Technicians

Pharmacy technicians play an essential role in patient care and are an important part of the pharmacy workforce across New Mexico. Technicians work closely with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in a variety of settings, including:

Becoming a Pharmacy Technician in New Mexico

To become a pharmacy technician in New Mexico, you must:

  • Register with the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy
  • Become nationally certified within one year of registration

Information and registration forms are available through the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy.

National Certification

Pharmacy technician certification is completed through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and requires successful completion of the certification exam.

License Renewal

Certified Pharmacy Technicians (CPhTs) must renew their certification every two years. Renewal requirements may change, so technicians should review current requirements directly through the PTCB website.
